Bowling blunders and top-order chaos derail India’s chase of a towering 213 runs.
Today Indian Captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and invited South Africa to bat by opting to bowl. After the massive win in the 1st T20I against South Africa. today it seems the Indian side has taken the 2nd T20I match very lightly.
India’s main bowler, Arshdeep Singh, bowled like a wannabe gully bowler by conceding 54 runs in just 4 overs. In fact, in one of the initial spells, he bowled 7 wide balls and conceded 18 runs in that spell. Indian Bowler Jaspreet Bumrah was not left far behind. In his 4-over spell, he too conceded 45 runs. These both mainstream bowlers had bowled too many wide and full tosses today, making it possible for South African Batters to score massive runs target against team India.
At least spinner Varun Chakaravarthy maintained the good line and length by conceding only 27 runs and taking 2 wickets in his 4-over spell.
And yes, today it is South African batsmen who steal the show. Batter De Cock played full of brilliance and grit and scored 90 runs with 7 sixes and 5 fours in just 46 balls. Batter Donovan Ferreira also scored 30 quick runs in just 16 balls, batter Markram scored 29 runs off 26 balls, and batter David Miller scored 20 important runs off 12 balls. The South African batter gave the massive target of 213 off 20 overs to India to chase.
Indian openers both struggled and got bowled too soon. Batter Abhishek Sharma at least scored 17 runs. But out of form, Indian Vice Captain Subham Gill got out on zero. Hope the selector will check the other better options of him before the ICC Men’s World Cup T20I matches slated for Feb 2026.
Indian Captain Suryakumar disappointed again by playing irresponsibly, and got out cheaply by scoring just 5 runs. India continuously lost the wickets and achieving 214 to win the match was looking like a next-to-impossible target.
Today in power play overs between 0.1 and 6.0, Indian batters scored 51 runs but lost 3 important batter wickets.
Today on the Indian batting side, Tilak Varma scored 62 off 34 balls, showing maturity and grit under tough circumstances. Hardik Pandya couldn’t connect much with the bat and scored just 20 off 23 balls, Axar scored 21 off 21 balls, and wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma scored 27 runs off 17 balls before getting caught by Baartman.
The South African bowlers maintained good line and length. Ottneil Baartman took 4 wickets with strict bowling line and Ngadi, Sipamla, and Jansen got 2 wickets each.
South Africa equal the series 1-1 with a commanding 51-run win over India in the second T20.
