Oye Oye, When Is It Dropping? The Dhurandhar 2 OTT Saga That’s Got Fans Waiting and Courts Deciding!
It has crossed ₹1,650 crore at the global box office. It ran for nearly four hours and still had audiences glued to their seats. It made Ranveer Singh the undisputed king of 2026 at the movies. And yet, if you’ve been sitting at home refreshing JioHotstar hoping to stream Dhurandhar: The Revenge, you’re not alone and you’ll need a little more patience.
Because one song— one gloriously catchy, foot-tapping song is holding up the entire OTT party.
The Wait That’s Killing Movie Buffs
Ever since Dhurandhar 2 stormed cinemas on March 19, 2026 and broke every record in sight, the question every non-multiplex person has been asking is simple: When can I watch this at home?
The film has collected a staggering ₹1,650 crore gross worldwide, with ₹1,230 crore from India alone and ₹420 crore from overseas, and it is still continuing with notable numbers at the box office. For a film that long— 229 minutes, nearly four hours— the couch crowd has every right to be eager.
The digital rights have been confirmed with JioHotstar, marking a shift in the franchise’s digital strategy. The first part had premiered on Netflix, but the makers have chosen a different platform this time, with the deal reportedly worth around ₹150 crore.
In addition to the digital deal, the film’s satellite rights have been acquired by Star Gold, further highlighting the strong buzz surrounding the film.
So the platform is confirmed, the money has changed hands, and everybody’s ready. What’s the hold-up?
Enter the Legal Battle: A 1989 Classic Causes 2026 Chaos
Here’s where things get filmy pun absolutely intended.
The legal battle centres on the song “Rang De Lal (Oye Oye)” featured in Dhurandhar 2. Trimurti Films, the plaintiff in the case, alleges that the track involves the unauthorised use of music from the iconic song “Tirchi Topiwala,” which originally appeared in the 1989 film Tridev. Trimurti Films holds the rights to the original track and claims that the makers of Dhurandhar 2 used a version substantially similar to it without obtaining the necessary licensing or permissions.
The original track was composed by Anand–Milind with lyrics by Anand Bakshi. For anyone who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s, Tirchi Topi Wale is not just a song — it’s a cultural memory. And Trimurti Films is not amused that a blockbuster action franchise has reworked it without, in their words, so much as a proper licence.
Director Rajiv Rai, associated with Trimurti Films, had earlier criticised the makers publicly and accused them of “theft” over the recreated version. Strong words.
A representative from Trimurti Films also expressed disappointment over the situation, stating that the song had been “mutilated” and questioned the ethical approach of the makers.
On the other side, the defence hasn’t sat quietly. Senior Advocate Akhil Sibal, appearing for Super Cassettes which holds the audio rights in Dhurandhar 2 songs, opposed any interim relief, arguing that Trimurti Films had approached the court with “unclean hands,” alleging that the production house had suppressed prior instances where similar songs from Tridev were used in other cinematic projects.

Mediation Failed. What Happens Now?
The Delhi High Court had earlier referred the dispute to mediation. Justice Tushar Rao Gedela noted that the dispute appeared largely financial in nature and indicated that issues such as royalty and compensation could be worked out through mediation.
But that didn’t go anywhere. Reports confirm that the attempt at mediation between Trimurti Films and the makers of Dhurandhar 2 over Rang De Lal (Oye Oye) has failed. The case will now go to trial, with the next hearing scheduled for May 8.
Which means it’s back to court, back to arguments, and back to fans staring at an empty JioHotstar page.
So When Is Dhurandhar 2 Actually Coming to OTT?
Here’s the honest answer: nobody officially knows yet, but there are strong clues.
Senior Advocate Ravi Prakash, appearing for B62 Films, had informed the court that the film is unlikely to be made available on OTT platforms till mid-May. That statement, made in a legal proceeding, effectively told everyone the earliest possible window.
JioHotstar has reportedly postponed the OTT premiere to late May or early June 2026, directly following the conclusion of IPL 2026. The decision is aimed at maximizing viewership by avoiding a clash with the peak cricket season.
An insider told Filmibeat that JioHotstar wants to maximize viewership for Dhurandhar 2 on OTT, and as of now, the plan is to premiere the second instalment around May 15— though plans can still change.
No official date has been announced. Until the courts and the platform align, late May to early June 2026 is the best guess going around.
The Film Itself: Worth Every Minute of the Wait
If you’ve somehow still not seen Dhurandhar 2, here’s what you’re waiting for.
The film features Ranveer Singh as undercover agent Jaskirat Singh Rangi, also known as Hamza Ali Mazari. He is supported by Sanjay Dutt as SSP Chaudhary Aslam, Arjun Rampal as the strategic Major Iqbal and R. Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal, Director of IB, with Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi appearing in pivotal roles.
The story follows India’s most dangerous undercover operative as he pushes deeper into Karachi’s criminal networks, takes on political circles, and seeks justice for the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks— all while navigating fresh national security threats. The plot draws from real-world events including Operation Lyari, the 2014 general election, and India’s 2016 demonetization.
Filmed simultaneously with the first part, production began in July 2024 in Bangkok and wrapped in October 2025. Locations across Punjab, Chandigarh, Maharashtra, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Thailand were used, with several doubling as Pakistan-based settings.
The first part created a sensation on OTT as well — on Netflix, it reportedly clocked over 30 million views and broke all-time records, becoming the most-watched Indian film on the platform in its opening period. If that’s the yardstick, JioHotstar is sitting on a goldmine.
The Bottom Line
A ₹1,650 crore film, a ₹150 crore OTT deal, a platform ready to go and a court case over a song from 1989 is the one thing standing between you and Ranveer Singh on your TV screen.
Whether the May 8 hearing brings resolution or more delay, one thing is clear: when Dhurandhar 2 finally drops on JioHotstar, the numbers are going to be something else entirely.
Till then? Maybe revisit Tirchi Topi Wale. At least that one has no legal complications yet or keep your popcorn ready. And your patience even readier!
